India and Norway partner to build polar research vessel

India’s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE) and Norway’s Kongsberg Oslo have signed an MoU to construct India’s first Polar Research Vessel (PRV) domestically. The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal in Oslo, Norway. Mr. Sonowal expressed that the MoU signifies India’s dedication to scientific progress and sustainable development. The PRV will be equipped with state-of-the-art scientific tools to facilitate ocean exploration, study marine ecosystems, and provide new insights into the planet’s history and future. Mr. Sonowal also took part in discussions on shipping and ocean business, reiterating India’s MAHASAGAR vision for inclusive growth.
