Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar Sharma reached out to his wife over the phone on Wednesday, but the call didn’t connect. Hours later, she received devastating news that he had been severely injured in the neck during Pakistani shelling in Poonch and did not survive. Sharma, along with 12 others, fell victim to the intense artillery fire near the Line of Control. The Indian Army confirmed his death in the attack. The next day, the village of Gulawat in Palwal was filled with mourners paying their respects to the fallen soldier.
Sharma’s wife, Seema, described him as caring, honest, and brave, emphasizing his love for spending time with family whenever he could. Married in 2017, Seema, who is now pregnant with their third child, expressed her desire for her children to follow in their father’s footsteps and join the Army. Sharma’s father, Daya Chand Sharma, shared how his son’s dream was always to serve in the Army, inspiring his siblings and others in the village to do the same. As Sharma’s body arrived in the village, chants of support for the Indian Army filled the air, honoring his memory with a 21-gun salute during the cremation ceremony.
