Bank Closures on May 1 for Labour Day

by PoliNexus

Banks in certain Indian cities will be closed on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in observance of Labour Day, Maharashtra Day, and Gujarat Foundation Day as per the RBI Holiday Calendar 2025. Throughout May 2025, banks will also be closed on 12 days, including second and fourth Saturdays, and all Sundays as weekly days off.

India’s bank holidays are meticulously planned in accordance with RBI regulations, including the Negotiable Instruments Act, RTGS holidays, and various national and regional observances. The surge in Google searches for “bank holiday today” on May 1, 2025, indicates a heightened interest in the Indian bank closures on Maharashtra Day 2025.

Labour Day, also known as May Day, is celebrated worldwide on May 1 to honor the labor union movement and the working class, including in India. Maharashtra Day, commemorating the establishment of Maharashtra state on May 1, 1960, is also observed on May 1.

While physical bank branches may be closed, online banking services will continue to operate seamlessly, enabling customers to use net banking, mobile banking, and UPI services without any disruptions.
